 | Seeds of Hope, Inc., is a private, independent group of believers responding to a common burden for the poor and hungry of God's world, and acting on the strong belief that biblical mandates to feed the poor were not intended to be optional. Housed by the community of faith at Seventh and James Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, the group works to seek out people of faith who feel called to care for the poor; and to affirm, enable, and empower a variety of responses to the problems of poverty. More about the Philosophy of Seeds of Hope from the editor Formerly the publisher of Seeds Magazine and the supplement Sprouts, Seeds of Hope is now working to produce a variety of resources and periodicals concerning how people of faith can and must respond to hunger issues. Among these resources is a quarterly packet of worship materials for churches and faith communities who are committed to issues of hunger, poverty, and economic justice. These 20-page packets, designed for seasons of the church year, include camera-ready prayers, litanies, youth activities, sermon aids, children's sermons, dramas, banners, clip art, and other tools for church leaders. The contents are designed to help the committed Christian find a balance between Sabbath and service. You can get all this for $120 a year (four 20-page packets; $50 for one packet). Non-US subscriptions are $135; individual packets are $60. To order, call 254/755-7745; fax 254/753-1909; write 602 James, Waco, TX 76706; or e-mail seedshope@aol.com. Worship Materials with an Attitude Seeds of Hope recently began publishing a new periodical on hunger and poverty issues, in partnership with an ecumenical group of hunger leaders. The first issue of this newsletter, Hunger News & Hope, ventured forth in January 1999. To receive Hunger News & Hope, contact one of the following denominational offices: American Baptist Churches in the USA, Baptist General Convention of Texas, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Christian Reformed Church in North America, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church USA, or Reformed Church in America. Also among the Seeds of Hope resources is the widely acclaimed "Volunteer Opportunities" feature, in which Seeds of Hope lists more than forty agencies and organizations to contact for a spectrum of long- and short-term volunteer opportunities. Another is a helpful article, "About Your Next Mission Trip" which contains ideas and contacts for youth and adult mission trips.
